Jose Mourinho: I would have rejected Manchester United…

The former Real Madrid coach also claimed that he knew of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement months ago, but this would not change his stance because he always one day wanted to return to Stamford Bridge.

Ferguson, who left Manchester United after 26 years in charge last month, has been replaced by former Everton manager David Moyes. But Mourinho, speaking to reporters, has stated that he would always have taken the Chelsea job.

“I would have turned down every job in the world – the Manchester United job, every one, for Chelsea,” the Portuguese coach commented. “I’m so happy with Ferguson’s trust because it was big news for the world – I can imagine that just a very small circle around him knew that, and it was a big responsibility for me to know that.”

Mourinho, who signed a new four-year-deal with Chelsea, told Ferguson personally that he would never have taken the Manchester United job, but he knew that Ferguson was going to retire.

“Why do I know that? Because we are friends, so If am his friend to know that he is going to retire, he is also my friend to know that the club I want to coach in England in Chelsea,” Mourinho added. “Of course I told him I want to come to Chelsea. I would turn down every job in the world for Chelsea.”
